Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud discussed cooperation in the field of environmental protection in a telephone conversation. This was reported on Thursday by the Kremlin press service.

"The parties discussed topical issues of Russian-Saudi cooperation. Particular attention was paid to the prospects of interaction on the problems of global climate change and environmental protection, including "green" energy," the report reads.

It is noted that the Crown Prince in the course of the conversation informed about the environmental initiatives recently put forward by Saudi Arabia aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the Middle East region, greening the territories and increasing the share of renewable energy sources. "Noting the relevance of such projects, Vladimir Putin spoke about Russia's efforts in the environmental sphere," the press service added.

The conversation took place at the initiative of the Saudi side.
