About Navruz
Navruz is a traditional celebration marking the arrival of spring and the renewal of nature.
The festival typically lasts between a three to five days, depending on the country. Its origins trace back over 3,000 years to Khorasan, a historical region in eastern Iran. Navruz coincides with the spring equinox (March 19, 20, or 21), marking the start of the new year in the solar astronomical calendar for Iranian and Turkic peoples.
Today, Navruz is a national holiday in Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. It is also celebrated by ethnic Iranian and Turkic communities in Albania, North Macedonia, Georgia, Turkey, China’s Xinjiang region, Iraqi Kurdistan, and parts of India. In Russia, festivities take place in regions such as Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, and Dagestan.
