Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with his counterpart from Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, the Kremlin's press service reported. The discussion focused on strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
"In follow-up to the agreements reached during Vladimir Putin and Umaro Sissoco Embaló's talks in Moscow in May 2024, a number of pressing issues were discussed regarding the expansion of bilateral cooperation in trade, economics, investment, and humanitarian areas," the Kremlin statement read.
The two presidents also expressed plans to continue their dialogue through future personal meetings.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov had earlier announced the planned call as an important international discussion. President Putin also mentioned the conversation at the beginning of a meeting of the supervisory board of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI), apologizing in advance for any brief absence during the session. However, the call eventually took place later, allowing Putin to remain at the ASI meeting uninterrupted.
The two leaders had previously met in Moscow on May 9, when President Embaló attended the Victory Day celebrations.
