Putin Receives US Invitation to Join Gaza "Peace Council"

19 January

Russian President Vladimir Putin has received an invitation to join the "Peace Council" for Gaza, an offer that is currently under review, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"Indeed, President Putin has received a proposal via diplomatic channels to join this Peace Council. We are currently examining all the details of this offer," Peskov told reporters in response to a query from TASS. "We look forward to further contact with the American side to clarify all the nuances," he added.

The announcement follows a statement from Ruslan Zheldibay, spokesperson for Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who confirmed that US President Donald Trump had invited Tokayev to join the Council and asked Kazakhstan to serve as one of its founding member states. Several other world leaders have reportedly received similar invitations from Washington.

The Council is expected to begin its operations during the second phase of the peace plan established in October 2025. That agreement was brokered between Israel and Hamas with the mediation of Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Turkey.
