Russia had previously proposed joint projects with Iran in the field of air defense, but Tehran showed little interest, President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with the heads of major global news agencies, organized by TASS.
“You know, at one point we proposed to our Iranian friends that we work together on air defense systems. Our partners didn’t show much interest at the time, and that was the end of it,” Putin said.
“As for the strategic partnership agreement you mentioned between Russia and Iran — it contains no provisions related to the defense sector. That’s the second point. And third, our Iranian friends aren’t asking for that kind of cooperation. There’s simply nothing to discuss in that area,” he added.
