Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent congratulations on Africa Day to the heads of state and government of countries in the region. The telegram was published Thursday on the Kremlin website.
"I am sure that the second Russia-Africa summit to be held in St. Petersburg in July will allow to define new tasks for expanding constructive cooperation of our country with African partners in political, trade and economic, scientific, technical, humanitarian and other spheres," the message from the head of state says.
Putin noted that he would be glad to see African leaders in St. Petersburg.
The Russian president recalled that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the Organization of African Unity, which has played an important role in the development of multilateral dialogue and cooperation for several decades. "Today its good traditions are continued by the African Union within the framework of which all states of the continent are actively cooperating. Thanks to their joint efforts, it has been possible to establish mechanisms for collective response to local crisis situations and to launch regional integration processes in various formats. This undoubtedly contributes to the socio-economic development of Africa, increasing its role in international affairs," he added.
The head of state stressed that Russia has always attached particular importance to strengthening friendly relations with African partners, and the 2019 first-ever Russia-Africa summit served to intensify ties in many areas.
