Putin to Conclude Tajikistan Visit with CIS Summit

10 October

On the final day of his visit to Tajikistan, Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Dushanbe.

As previously indicated by Presidential Foreign Affairs Adviser Yuri Ushakov, the event will focus primarily on developing trade and investment partnerships and strengthening security within the CIS.

The summit will be hosted by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. Prior to the main session, the heads of state will meet in a restricted format.

Ushakov stated that the meeting is expected to review the organization's activities over the past year and outline key objectives for the future. The leaders will also exchange views on pressing international and regional issues.

In addition to the Russian leader, the meeting will be attended by the presidents of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as the prime minister of Armenia.

The CIS Council of Heads of State is the supreme body of the Commonwealth, responsible for making fundamental decisions on all key issues, including amendments to the CIS Charter and changes to the organization's structure. The previous council meeting was held in the Moscow Kremlin in October 2024.
