Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed Iran's accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), noting the importance of helping Tehran integrate into all processes of the association.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran will now fully participate in our organization. I would like to sincerely congratulate Mr. Ebrahim Raisi, President of Iran," the Russian head of state said at the SCO online summit.

"In less than two years the Iranian partners have completed all the necessary procedures, and now our common task is to help our colleagues effectively integrate into the ongoing multifaceted work within the SCO," Putin added.

He stressed that it is gratifying that both the authority and influence of the SCO continue to increase, and that other states and international organizations demonstrate growing interest in the organization. "Many of them wish to establish an equal dialogue with the SCO and are considering joining its work. They trust us, they want to be friends with us and cooperate with us," the president of the Russian Federation added.
