Qatar is taking part in diplomatic efforts aimed at finding a negotiated way out of the escalating situation surrounding Iran, a senior Qatari official said.
Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Adviser to the Prime Minister and spokesperson for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, said Doha still believes a diplomatic solution is possible and is therefore engaging all regional parties behind the scenes. “We are still at the stage where we believe a diplomatic solution can be found,” he told reporters. “That is why we are interacting privately with all sides in the region.”
Al Ansari also said the Qatari government has taken precautionary steps to protect the population in light of heightened regional tensions and mutual threats between Washington and Tehran. He stressed that ensuring the safety of Qatar’s citizens and residents remains the government’s top priority, including for defense and other relevant agencies.
