Qatari authorities will send $5 million in humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees and temporarily displaced persons. This was announced by Lolwa bint Rashid al-Khater, Assistant Foreign Minister of Qatar, in a statement released on Sunday.
"The state of Qatar announced $5 million in humanitarian aid through the Qatar Development Fund to support Ukrainian refugees and displaced persons, <...> stressing that the difficult humanitarian situation faced by millions of refugees amid ongoing escalation and tensions requires the solidarity of the international community to develop emergency plans to respond to their living needs," the statement said.
Qatar, according to al-Khater, calls for "an immediate cessation of hostilities in Ukraine and the security of humanitarian corridors for the delivery of aid," as well as a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
More than 4.5 million people arrived from Ukraine to neighboring countries between February 24 and April 9, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The security services told TASS on April 7 that the total number of citizens who arrived in Russia from the territory of the DNR, LNR and Ukraine exceeded 650,000.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help from the leaders of the Donbass republics. He repeatedly stressed that Moscow's plans did not include occupation of Ukrainian territories; the goal was to demilitarize and denationalize the country.
