Majid bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, advisor to the Prime Minister and official spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented on US President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate Palestinians displaced from Gaza to Arab countries. He stated that Doha does not agree with many allies, including Washington, on certain issues.
“First and foremost, we have always maintained a firm position on the necessity of granting the Palestinian people their rights. The establishment of two states is the only step toward resolving the Palestinian issue, and we have always stood by our Palestinian brothers,” Al-Ansari said during a briefing when asked about Trump’s comments.
“We greatly value the positive engagement with the Trump administration. The deal we currently have in Gaza would not have been possible without the direct intervention of the Trump administration, even before his team came to the White House. Therefore, we continue to engage positively with them. However, we do not align on many issues with all our allies, not just the United States. Still, we work closely with them to ensure we collectively shape regional policies,” he added.
On January 25, Trump suggested resettling 1.5 million displaced Palestinians from Gaza to Arab countries following Israeli military operations. He said he had already discussed this with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and planned to bring it up in talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
The following day, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi reaffirmed the kingdom’s opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry also rejected any violations of Palestinian rights, including their right to land.
