Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of using “shameful excuses” to justify the attack on Doha, and criticized Israeli leaders for arrogance and believing in their own impunity.
Drawing a parallel with talks involving the Taliban—whose political bureau was also based in Doha—Al Thani noted that the negotiations led to a peace agreement ending the war in Afghanistan. “Throughout those years, the US never targeted negotiators,” he said at the UN Security Council, recalling the success of steps taken in partnership with the Trump administration.
“This is the approach we pursue. It is the approach the Israeli Prime Minister is trying to distort,” Al Thani continued. He added, “Ongoing violations of international law and behavior undermining all values prove only one thing: current Israeli leaders are arrogant and assume they will not be held accountable.”
Al Thani further stated that—beyond “genocide in Gaza and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe”—Israel is now also “undermining stability throughout the region”.
