Rais of Tatarstan Emphasizes Importance of Trade and Economic Relations with Muslim Countries

Tatarstan attaches great importance to the development of trade and economic contacts with Muslim countries, stated Rustam Minnikhanov, the Rais of Tatarstan, during a meeting with the delegation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) led by Mohamed Salah Tekaya, the representative of the OIC Secretary General for Political Affairs. The meeting took place during the XV KazanForum.

 

Minnikhanov expressed gratitude to the OIC delegation for their participation in the XV KazanForum and for their support of the event. He shared his recent experience attending the XV OIC Summit in Gambia as the head of the Russian delegation, describing it as an informative and impactful event where crucial issues facing the Islamic world were discussed. Additionally, Minnikhanov extended congratulations on the 55th anniversary of the OIC.

 

"Russia considers the states of Islamic civilization as its reliable partner in building a multipolar world order, ensuring international security, stability, and solving economic problems at the regional level," emphasized Minnikhanov.

 

"Tatarstan is proud of its contribution to the development of Russia's ties with the OIC. I have repeatedly met with OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha. Our contacts with the leadership of the Organization are becoming a good tradition. We are pleased with the dynamics and level of our relations developed over the past years," Rustam Minnikhanov said.

 

Regarding Russia's foreign policy, Minnikhanov reiterated the priority placed on developing cooperation with the Islamic world, as evidenced by the federal status granted to the KazanForum by President Vladimir Putin. He pointed out the significant increase in trade turnover with OIC countries, reaching $5.7 billion last year, while acknowledging the untapped potential for further economic.

 

Mohamed Salah Tekaya, the OIC delegation leader, acknowledged President Minnikhanov's personal contribution to strengthening comprehensive ties between Russia and OIC countries. "A lot of work is being done by the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia-Islamic World". Yesterday I noted a very high level of interest of Muslim countries to cooperate with Russia. The work of the Group seriously contributes to this. Russia is a strong and reliable partner of the Islamic world," he emphasized.
