The Iranian authorities are interested in concluding a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Russia as soon as possible, President of the Islamic republic Ebrahim Raisi said on Wednesday during a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
"We are serious about bringing the issue [of signing] a document on comprehensive cooperation between Iran and Russia to a conclusion as soon as possible," the Iranian politician was quoted as saying by his press service. According to Raisi, the Iranian side "seeks to remove obstacles in relations, open a new page of cooperation and is determined to increase trade turnover with Russia."
Iran's president also thanked the Russian side for supporting Tehran's idea of joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. According to him, "these actions strengthen the close relations between the countries."
On March 29, Mojtaba Zonnur, head of the national security committee of Iran's Majlis (parliament), said Tehran expected to sign a cooperation agreement with Moscow similar to the one with China. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif signed a 25-year comprehensive cooperation agreement on March 27. The agreement includes economic and cultural cooperation.
