Iran's government and people are grateful to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) for granting membership to the Islamic Republic, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said at an online SCO meeting on Tuesday.
"We appreciate the kind words of the Indian prime minister and his efforts to hold this summit. On behalf of the government and people of Iran, I would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for making the Islamic Republic of Iran a full-fledged SCO member," he said.
He noted that Iran's membership in the SCO will give the republic an opportunity for economic development.
There is a need to refuse from using the US dollar, it is a tool of hegemony, Raisi said. According to him, Iran will expand cooperation with Russia to create transport corridors in the region.
