Ravil Gainutdin urged to protect Christians in the Middle East

10 December 2019

Chairman of the Religious Board of the Russian Federation and the Russian Muftis Council Ravil Gainutdin called on Islamic politicians to protect Christians in the Middle East and Africa.

Speaking at the XV International Muslim Forum, which is taking place today in Berlin, he stressed that indifference to interreligious tensions and conflicts in Africa is "a reason to be ashamed of ourselves."

"The Muslim world will have to go through not less and perhaps more difficult way to protect the rights of religious minorities and their future," Interfax quoted Gainutdin, who added that in the last 15-20 years, the situation of Christians  in the Middle East has been "truly catastrophic."

The upcoming 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in May 2020 is, according to Gainutdin, "an edification to all of us, a warning against destructive and inhuman experiments on the forced redrawing of the national and religious composition of certain regions."
