Kais Saied, re-elected for a second term as president of Tunisia, was sworn in during a ceremonial session of parliament at the Bardo Palace. The inauguration was broadcast live by Tunisia TV.
“I swear to preserve the independence and territorial integrity of the homeland, to respect its constitution and laws, and to fully protect the interests of my country,” Saied declared, placing his right hand on the Quran.
One of the key goals he set for his new term is to tackle unemployment. “The unemployed are not just young people, they are victims of decades of corruption and failed economic decisions,” Saied stated. He pledged to work hard to “open new opportunities for the unemployed, especially for the youth.”
The ceremony was attended by members of both houses of the Tunisian parliament—the Assembly of the Representatives of the People (lower house) and the National Assembly of Regions and Districts (upper house)—along with their leaders, the head of government, Tunisia's grand mufti, the archbishop of the Catholic Church, and the chief rabbi.
The presidential election took place on October 6, with the Independent High Authority for Elections (which acts as the national electoral commission) announcing the final results on October 11. Saied secured an overwhelming victory with 90.69% of the vote, while the turnout reached 28.8%.
