Regional Forum of Russian universities alumni associations to open in Beirut

Over 60 delegates from 10 Arab countries of the Middle East and North Africa will take part in a regional forum of Russian and Soviet graduate associations that will open in Beirut on Thursday. Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Rudakov will attend the meeting, which will be held in the concert hall of the Russian center of science and culture on Verdun Street, the organizing committee told TASS correspondent.


"Our forum will focus on the interaction between existing alumni organizations in the region and their contribution to strengthening Arab cooperation with Russia in various fields," said Tony Maalouf, chairman of the Lebanese association of Russian and Soviet alumni. He noted that the first day of the forum will include discussions on "Russia and the new world order" and "The role of alumni in the fight against Russophobia."


On December 2, the "Russia and the Arab World: meeting of two civilizations" round table will be held via videoconference with the participation of scholars in the field of oriental studies and international relations from Kazan, Moscow and St. Petersburg. Academician of the Russian Academy of Education Suheil Farah will be the moderator.


"Delegates of the forum, which will run until December 5, will focus on the promotion of Russian culture and the Russian language, the implementation of joint programs in science and education, in the social and humanitarian sphere," Maalouf stressed. An exhibition-presentation of leading Russian universities will be held as part of the event.


In May 2019, Beirut hosted a forum of the World association of Russian and Soviet university alumni. It brought together over 100 delegates from 23 countries.
