Relations between Moscow and Bissau have always been good - Putin

25 October 2022

Relations between Russia and Guinea-Bissau have been good throughout the formation of the Bissau statehood, now there is much to be done to develop them. Russian President Vladimir Putin said this on Tuesday at a meeting with his colleague from the West African country, Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Umaro Sissoco Embalo.

"Throughout the formation of the Bissau state, the struggle for independence, and afterwards, during the formation of Bissau statehood, there have always been very good, very friendly relations between the Soviet Union, Russia and your country. And today the same thing is developing," Putin said.

According to him, "of course, a lot should be done for the development of trade and economic and humanitarian relations." The president said that even now, in terms of cooperation in education, "the situation is developing quite positively."

He added that he was very happy to see his counterpart. "Next year we celebrate the 55th anniversary of our diplomatic relations, but this is the first time a meeting between presidents, heads of states is taking place. We are very glad to see you in Russia," Putin concluded.
