Negotiations on the use of Russian vaccines against coronavirus are currently underway with many Arab countries due to the conclusion on the canonical permissibility - halalness of the drug, First Deputy Chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia Rushan Abbyasov said on Wednesday.
"At the moment, there is an active dialogue with the state departments of many Islamic countries of the world regarding the use of Russian vaccines against COVID-19 on their territory, and an important impetus in this situation was given by the theological conclusion - a fatwa of our Ulema Council on the canonical permissibility, that is halalness of Russian vaccines, and in particular Sputnik V," Abbyasov said at the "Medicine amid COVID-19" session of the International Economic Summit "Russia - Islamic World: KazanSummit 2021."
This theological conclusion provided Muslims in Russia and their fellow believers abroad with an additional argument in favor of vaccination. In particular, according to Abbyasov, this is the opinion of the Food and Drug Administration of Indonesia, the largest Muslim country in the world.
In March of this year, the Ulema Council of the Religious Board of the Russian Federation recognized the use of the Sputnik V vaccine as permissible in terms of Islam, and the Halal International Standardization and Certification Center awarded the vaccine a halal certificate. A similar halal certificate was issued in early June for the EpiVacCorona vaccine.
The XII International Economic Summit "Russia - Islamic World: KazanSummit 2021" is taking place in Kazan on July 28-30, 2021. Representatives of 48 countries and 25 regions of Russia participate in the summit. The summit is aimed at developing cooperation and maintaining a dialogue between Russia and the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the economic, political and cultural spheres.
