Report: Israel and Arab States Urge US to Hold Off on Striking Iran

14 January

Officials from Israel and several unnamed Arab countries have urged the United States not to launch strikes on Iran at this stage, NBC News reported, citing multiple sources familiar with the discussions.

According to the report, these officials believe Iran is not yet weakened enough for US attacks to achieve the political outcome Washington might be seeking, and they advised the Trump administration to wait until the situation inside Iran becomes “even more strained.”

A White House National Security Council meeting was held on January 13 under Vice President JD Vance to prepare options for President Donald Trump on Iran, with Axios reporting that Trump also joined after returning from a trip to Detroit.

Unrest in Iran began on December 29, 2025, after Tehran merchants protested the sharp fall of the rial, later drawing in students and spreading to major cities, according to reporting that also cited Iranian officials as saying 38 law enforcement officers had been killed. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that armed “terrorists” appeared among demonstrators on January 8, and Iranian authorities have blamed Israel and the US for fueling the unrest, while Trump has warned he is seriously considering the use of force against Tehran.
