Rosatom State Corporation is prepared to offer Kazakhstan its most advanced technologies for the construction of a future nuclear power plant (NPP). This announcement was made by Vadim Titov, General Director of Rusatom - International Network, during the KazAtomExpo international exhibition of nuclear technologies in Astana.
"We are ready to offer our partners and colleagues in Kazakhstan advanced Generation 3+ technologies for large-capacity nuclear power. Rosatom was the first company in the world to commission a Generation 3+ unit. In terms of safety, this is the most advanced technology," Titov stated.
He emphasized that for Rosatom, constructing a nuclear power plant goes beyond merely building the facility. "It is very important for us that, along with the power plant, we offer an integrated solution that includes the training of necessary personnel, guarantees of fuel supply, and assurances for the handling of spent nuclear fuel. Additionally, maximizing the involvement of local suppliers and companies is a priority for us," Titov explained.
On September 1, 2023, Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed that the issue of constructing a nuclear power plant be decided through a national referendum. By June 2024, he confirmed that the referendum would take place in the fall.
Kazakhstan's authorities are considering several potential suppliers of nuclear technology, including China's CNNC, South Korea's KHNP, Rosatom, and France's EDF. According to research, the Ulken village in the Zhambyl district of the Almaty region has been identified as the most suitable location for the plant's construction.
