Roscosmos Expresses Condolences to Family of Kazakh Cosmonaut Talgat Musabayev

The Russian State Corporation Roscosmos has expressed deep condolences to the family and loved ones of pilot-cosmonaut Talgat Musabayev, who passed away on August 4.

 

“Roscosmos and enterprises of the Russian rocket and space industry extend their heartfelt sympathies to the relatives and friends of Talgat Amangeldievich,” the corporation’s press service stated.

 

Musabayev was born on January 7, 1951, in the village of Kargaly, the Kazakh SSR. He flew into space three times as part of Soyuz TM crew missions—in 1994, 1998 and 2001. In his last spaceflight, he led the first Russian expedition to visit the International Space Station.

 

His total time spent in space amounted to 341 days, 9 hours, 48 minutes and 41 seconds. Across his three missions, Musabayev conducted eight spacewalks—two during his first expedition and six during the second.

 

Musabayev was honored with titles including People’s Hero of Kazakhstan and Hero of the Russian Federation.
