A new contract with Turkey for the supply of S-400 air defense missile systems may be signed in the near future, Alexander Mikheyev, General Director of Rosoboronexport (part of Rostec), said on Monday during the Army-2021 International Military-Technical Forum.
"Consultations are continuing, at the final stage. We will start drawing up the contract with our partners in the near future," Mikheyev said.
According to him, certain successes were achieved during the IDEF 2021 armament exhibition held in Turkey in August. "The exhibition was successful, our delegation brought a good request program," Mikheyev said.
Russia and Turkey signed a contract in 2017 for Moscow to supply Ankara with S-400 complexes. Turkey was the first NATO country to purchase these systems from Russia. Ankara's decision provoked a sharply negative reaction from the United States and the alliance as a whole.
S-400 Triumf is a Russian air defense missile system of long and medium range. It is designed to defeat air and reconnaissance weapons and any other air targets under conditions of intensive fire and electronic countermeasures.
The Army-2021 International Military and Technical Forum is taking place in Kubinka on August 22-28.
