Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare) will demonstrate its mobile laboratories to participants of the 1st Russian-African International Conference on Combating Infectious Diseases in Kampala, and will also conduct drills on operating them in conditions of infection outbreaks. This was announced by the press service of Rospatrebnadzor.
"On the final day of the conference, participants will be shown all the capabilities of Russian mobile laboratories. Rospotrebnadzor will organize practical drills on the application of such complexes, showing African partners how mobile laboratories can be utilized in the midst of the most dangerous infections," the statement said.
The drills will involve laboratories donated by Russian President Vladimir Putin to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni as a gift at the Russia-Africa Summit. "Just before the conference, these laboratories were delivered to Kampala, the capital of Uganda, by Rospatrebnadzor," the department clarified.
"Mobile anti-epidemic laboratories are a unique Russian development. Today, they are not only used in many regions of Russia but also in 14 countries around the world. The use of such laboratories allows for the decoding of any infection, including the most dangerous ones such as Ebola, Marburg, Dengue, Lassa - highly relevant for the African continent," Rospotrebnadzor reported, adding that they enable conducting up to 2,000 research studies per day on over 20 infections.
