Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, have signed an Agreement on the Foundations of Relations between the two countries, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported following their meeting in Moscow on February 12, 2026.
"A mutual commitment to strengthening the coordination of steps in addressing the main problems of the global and regional agenda was confirmed, including within the UN and at other multilateral platforms. At the conclusion of the meeting, the ministers signed the Agreement on the Foundations of Relations between the Russian Federation and Burkina Faso," the ministry's statement reads.
It was also reported that during the conversation, current issues regarding the further development of traditionally friendly Russia-Burkina Faso ties were discussed. The two sides outlined ways to increase interaction in trade, economic, humanitarian, and other areas, in line with the agreements reached following high-level negotiations held in Moscow in May 2025.
