Russia and Indonesia reaffirmed their shared or closely aligned positions on key Middle Eastern issues during diplomatic consultations held in Jakarta. The talks featured Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, and First Deputy Foreign Minister of Indonesia, Anis Matta.

According to a statement released by the Russian Foreign Ministry following the meeting, the two sides confirmed a high level of mutual understanding on the regional agenda and agreed to further develop constructive bilateral dialogue and political coordination, particularly within the BRICS framework.

“The consultations confirmed the convergence or closeness of Moscow’s and Jakarta’s approaches to the regional agenda. An agreement was reached to continue constructive Russian-Indonesian political dialogue and coordination on Middle Eastern affairs, including within BRICS,” the ministry noted.

The discussion focused on current issues in the Middle East, including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the situations in Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan, and the Persian Gulf. Both sides stressed the urgent need to cease hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

Emphasizing a shared commitment to international law, the two delegations expressed the view that crises and conflicts across the Middle East and North Africa must be resolved in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter, including non-interference in internal affairs, respect for sovereignty, and the territorial integrity of states.
