Russia and Iran have held discussions regarding the possibility of signing a memorandum on cooperation between their respective special economic zones (SEZ). The meeting took place between Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dmitry Volvach and Advisor to the President of Iran, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Free Trade-Industrial and Special Economic Zones of Iran Hojatollah Abdolmaleki. The aim is to enhance collaboration and strengthen economic ties between the two countries through the establishment of this memorandum. The press service of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation reported on the outcomes of the meeting.

During a videoconference meeting, Volvach and Abdolmaleki discussed the possibility of concluding a memorandum between their respective economic development bodies. The memorandum aims to foster cooperation between the special economic zones (SEZs) of Russia and Iran, with a focus on expanding ties for production, trade, economic, and investment collaboration.

Dmitry Volvach also informed the Iranian colleagues about the establishment of the "Technologies and Logistics" union in Russia. This union aims to strengthen trade, economic, transport, and logistics cooperation between Russia, the Caspian region, and states connected to the international transport corridor "North - South." The union comprises management companies of two Russian SEZs: "Technopolis Moscow," which supports residents engaged in scientific and technological developments, and "Lotos," which oversees production, processing, and logistics in the port and industrial economic zones of the Astrakhan region. The third participant in the union is the "Directorate of International Transport Corridors," which focuses on improving transport infrastructure and carriers along the International Transport Corridors routes.

The meeting also touched upon discussions related to the creation of the International Union of Economic Zones. Sergey Milushkin, the General Director of SEZ Lotos JSC, highlighted that countries like Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, India, countries in the Arab world, and others could potentially join the International Union of Economic Zones if they wish. Such a union is expected to be beneficial for all participating nations.
