Russia and Kazakhstan have agreed at interdepartmental consultations in Alma-Ata to develop a partnership for ensuring biological security, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Thursday following the consultations.
"The meeting confirmed the unity of the approaches of Russia and Kazakhstan to the problems of biological security. The parties stressed the need for further close coordination and constructive interaction at specialized multilateral platforms. The parties agreed to continue development of Russian-Kazakh partnership in order to ensure biological safety, including by holding regular bilateral interdepartmental consultations on the issue," the document says.
The sides also exchanged assessments of threats to biological security in the post-Soviet space. "The coordination of a draft bilateral intergovernmental memorandum of understanding on biological security was continued. The consultations were combined with a visit by Russian subject experts to the Aikimbayev Central Reference Laboratory," the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.
