Russia and Kazakhstan to discuss lifting of infrastructural restrictions on trade at the forum

Lifting of infrastructural restrictions of international trade will be the main topic of the XVIII Forum of interregional cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan, which will be held in Orenburg on Monday, the forum organizers said.


Another series of meetings and negotiations will be aimed at strengthening cross-border ties in modern conditions, including the era of sanctions. The delegations of the countries  will be led by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk and Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin.


Within the framework of the forum, there will be four panel sessions on transport and logistics potential of Russia and Kazakhstan, digitalization of urban infrastructure and youth entrepreneurship. At the meeting of Russia-Kazakhstan business council, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Kazakhstan will express their opinion about the role of business in the development of the Eurasian transport corridors and propose options for rapid transit between the regions of the two countries.


A plenary session of the XVIII Forum of interregional cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan is scheduled for the afternoon. It will be devoted to overcoming infrastructural limitations of international trade. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev are expected to address the participants of the business platform via video link. Then Overchuk and Zhumangarin are expected to speak.


Heads of regions of both countries will present their vision of cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan. In particular, Nurlan Urankhaev and Eraly Tugzhanov, akims of the Abay and Aktobe regions of Kazakhstan, and Radiy Khabirov, head of the Republic of Bashkortostan are scheduled to speak. According to the regional government's press-service, the Orenburg region will submit proposals on the renovation of the Iletsk-1 station. They concern organization of faster cargo inspection using new technologies on the key direction of cargo transportation by rail. The report of Denis Pasler, governor of the Orenburg region, will touch upon the matter of the tariff policy on the transit routes through Central Asia.


On the sidelines of the forum, akimat heads and governors of border territories, and business representatives of the two countries will also meet. The final event of the forum will be the signing of bilateral documents.


About the Forum


Since 2003, the Forum of interregional cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia was alternately held in Russian and Kazakh cities: Chelyabinsk, Uralsk, Novosibirsk, Aktobe, Orenburg, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Astrakhan, Pavlodar, Ekaterinburg, Atyrau, Sochi, Astana, Petropavlovsk and Omsk. This tradition appeared after meeting of the first president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and the Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Omsk in 2003. 


The previous forum of interregional cooperation was held on September 28-30, 2021, in online format and following its results Russia and Kazakhstan signed 13 documents.
