Russia and Mauritania to Collaborate on African Security

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzouk have reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate on ensuring security and stability in the Sahara-Sahel region and across Africa, a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry reads.

 

The ministry highlighted that Lavrov and Merzouk exchanged congratulatory telegrams marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Mauritania.

 

"The focus on maintaining effective foreign policy coordination in the interests of ensuring security and stability in the Sahara-Sahel zone and in Africa as a whole was confirmed," the statement said. The Russian Foreign Ministry added that both sides expressed interest in further developing the partnership between Russia and Mauritania.
