Russia and Morocco Welcome Implementation of Palestinian-Israeli Settlement

16 October

Russia and Morocco have welcomed the initial implementation phase of the Palestinian-Israeli settlement and expect the achieved agreements to be strictly adhered to, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a press conference following talks in Moscow with his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita.

“We welcome the emerging positive changes on the ground, particularly in the Palestinian territories, especially the Gaza Strip, and express satisfaction with the successful start of implementing the first stage of the agreement between Israel and Hamas regarding the ceasefire in Gaza and the exchange of detainees—an agreement reached through mediation by the US, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey,” stated the head of Russian diplomacy.

“We expect—and this is our shared view—that the achieved agreements will be strictly implemented, taking into account the outcomes of the October 13 Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, and that further steps will follow, as extensively discussed recently, including in Sharm el-Sheikh,” Lavrov added.

This statement follows the Israeli military's earlier announcement that all 20 hostages released from captivity in the Gaza Strip on October 13 have been brought to Israeli territory. On October 10, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office confirmed the government's approval of the deal to release all hostages. On October 9, President Trump announced that Israeli and Hamas representatives had reached an agreement on the first phase of a peace plan following negotiations in Egypt, which includes the release of all hostages and the withdrawal of Israeli troops to an agreed line within Gaza.
