Russia and Nigeria Discuss Energy Cooperation

16 July

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak held talks with Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Economy Coordinator Wale Edun to explore prospects for bilateral cooperation in oil and gas, energy, and other sectors.

Novak highlighted the friendly nature of Russia–Nigeria relations, noting they are built on mutual respect and shared views on key international and regional issues. “We see Abuja as a promising partner on the African continent,” he said.

The two sides paid particular attention to their work together within the OPEC+ framework and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. According to Novak, “Our joint efforts within OPEC+ play a crucial role in keeping the global oil market stable and predictable. The decisions we take are based on real market trends and aim to maintain balance amid economic challenges.”

The talks also covered potential full-cycle cooperation in the oil and gas industry — from exploration to field development — as well as opportunities in industrial equipment supply and banking and financial services.
