Several countries, including Russia, have offered to help in the search for an Indonesian submarine. The navies of Malaysia and Singapore have sent their rescuers to participate in the search operation, Indonesian Navy spokesman Ahmad Riad told reporters Thursday.
"So far the participation of ships from Malaysia and Singapore in the operation has been confirmed and they are due to arrive on Saturday afternoon," he was quoted by news portal Detik as saying. "Several countries - Russia, Australia, Germany, India and the United States - have also offered their help," the Indonesian Navy spokesman informed.
He denied reports in some media that an object resembling a submarine had been found underwater.
Earlier, the Defense Ministry reported the appearance of an oil slick in the area of the alleged disappearance of the submarine. The diesel submarine Nangala, with 53 people on board, took part in torpedo launches in the waters of the Bali Sea.
