Senior officials from Russia and Pakistan convened in Islamabad for the 15th session of the Bilateral Consultative Group on Strategic Stability, a platform focused on arms control and non-proliferation issues. Leading the delegations were Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and Pakistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arms Control and Disarmament, Tahir Andrabi, according to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.
The two sides held in-depth discussions on a broad range of topics related to global and regional security, arms control, disarmament, and the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. They also shared perspectives on key multilateral forums including the UN General Assembly’s First Committee, the IAEA, the Conference on Disarmament, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), and the Biological Weapons Convention.
Emerging security challenges in the digital and technological spheres were also addressed, with both parties reviewing concerns over international information security and the growing military use of artificial intelligence.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry noted a significant alignment of positions between the two countries and confirmed both sides' commitment to maintaining close coordination, both bilaterally and in relevant international venues.
The next meeting of the Consultative Group is scheduled to take place in Moscow in 2026.
