On the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, met with Matthew Sahr Nyuma, Majority Leader in Sierra Leone’s Parliament, and Julius Mattai, Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the parties discussed practical steps toward reopening the Russian Embassy in Freetown. The move is expected to give fresh momentum to the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
The Ministry emphasized that the meeting addressed a wide range of topics related to the continued development of traditionally friendly relations between Russia and Sierra Leone. Special attention was given to expanding trade, economic, scientific, technical, and humanitarian ties, as well as maintaining active political dialogue on key international and African issues of mutual interest. This includes coordination in light of Sierra Leone’s current non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council.
