Russian Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Sudanese Ambassador to Moscow Mohammed Sirraj have discussed potential solutions to the ongoing military and political crisis in Sudan.
"The primary focus of the discussion was on resolving the crisis in a manner that ensures Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The meeting also addressed the enhancement of traditionally friendly Russia-Sudan relations and the continuation of active political dialogue," the statement from the Russian MFA reads.
The ministry added that the meeting was initiated by the Sudanese side.
Since April 2023, Sudan has been experiencing heightened instability due to a power struggle between the chairman of the Sovereign Council, army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the head of the Rapid Support Force, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. The central points of contention include the timing and methodology for forming a unified armed force, with al-Burhan advocating for a professional military officer as commander-in-chief and Dagalo pushing for an elected civilian president. The conflict between their supporters continues to affect various parts of the country.
