Russia and Syria discuss possible extradition of convicts

The Russian Justice Ministry has held talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on the extradition of citizens sentenced to imprisonment, according to the ministry's press service.


A Justice Ministry delegation led by State Secretary - Deputy Minister Andrei Loginov - earlier arrived on a working visit to Syria where it is taking part in the second international conference on the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland and is also solving the issues of humanitarian aid to Syria. In addition, Loginov met with al-Assad, with whom he discussed the prospects for the development of interstate cooperation in the sphere of justice.


"Interdepartmental expert consultations on draft international treaties between the Russian Federation and the Syrian Arab Republic on extradition and on handover of persons sentenced to imprisonment have begun in order to finalize the text and prepare it for signing," the report said.


Also, the delegation of the Russian Ministry of Justice handed over to the Syrian side specially prepared humanitarian aid: food and clothes. The total weight of the cargo exceeded 27 tons.
