During events marking the completion of the project to reclaim the territories of the Taboshar industrial site near the town of Istiklol in the Sughd region of Tajikistan, Nikolay Spassky, Deputy Director General and Director of Rosatom's International Activities Unit, stated that discussions are underway to explore opportunities for cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan in various aspects of the nuclear industry and related technologies.
"Reclamation works are of great importance as they directly impact the lives, safety, and health of people. However, our collaboration extends beyond reclamation. The Ministry of Industry and New Technologies plays a vital role in Tajikistan's economy. Therefore, we engage in discussions with our esteemed colleagues on a wide range of topics. These include nuclear medicine, geological exploration, mining of minerals and rare-earth metals, personnel training, as well as related areas such as storage solutions and digitalization," he explained.
The Russian side has successfully completed the reclamation of the waste dump from the poor uranium ores factory and four tailing ponds. Innovative engineering solutions were employed to reduce the height of the uranium sand dump from 65 to 35 meters, and it was subsequently covered with a layer of clean soil measuring one and a half meters in thickness. The radiation levels in the vicinity of the rehabilitated areas have returned to natural levels, a fact substantiated by monitoring data from the Agency for Chemical, Biological, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.
