Russia is awaiting Pakistan’s decision on restarting air travel between the two countries. Discussions held at the end of 2024 explored the possibility of Pakistani airlines launching flights to Russia, according to the Russian Ministry of Transport.
"Towards the end of 2024, we held several meetings to discuss the potential for Pakistani airlines to operate routes to Russia. We are now awaiting a formal response from the Pakistani side," the ministry noted.
The Ministry also highlighted that passenger demand from Pakistan remains insufficient to make routes operated by Russian airlines financially viable.
Meanwhile, the issue of resuming flights with Malaysia remains under active consideration. In October 2024, aviation officials from both countries conducted a series of meetings to discuss the matter. "Malaysia has expressed clear interest in opening routes to Russia. However, they have cited challenges in obtaining insurance coverage for flights to Russia and indicated that more work is needed to resolve this," the statement read.
Officials further explained that the issue of insurance for Malaysian airlines could be resolved by providing the necessary documentation through the Russian National Reinsurance Company (RNRC). "We’ve invited our Malaysian counterparts to hold another round of discussions to address the matter," the ministry added.
Earlier, Russian Minister of Transport Roman Starovoit revealed in an interview with TASS that talks are ongoing to establish direct flight connections with Brazil, Malaysia, and Pakistan.
