The foreign ministers of Russia, China, Iran and Pakistan confirmed the necessity of achieving national reconciliation in Afghanistan at the four-party meeting on the margins of the SCO and CSTO summits, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"The four-party meeting of Russia, China, Pakistan and Iran on the situation in Afghanistan was held in Dushanbe on the margins of the SCO and CSTO summits on September 16. Approaches to promoting peace, stability and security in Afghanistan were reconciled and the need to achieve national reconciliation in this country was confirmed," the report said.
The Taliban, which is banned in Russia, launched a large-scale operation to take control of Afghanistan after the announcement of the withdrawal of American troops from there. On August 15, Afghan president Ashraf Ghani resigned and the Taliban entered Kabul without a fight. In September, they announced they had taken control of the entire country and appointed an interim government comprised solely of members of the movement, predominantly of the country's largest ethnic group, the Pashtuns.
