Russia Concerned Over Israeli Military Actions Contrary to Agreements with Hamas and Lebanon

26 February

Russia and Qatar have expressed concern over the actions of the Israeli army, which violate UN Security Council resolutions and agreements with Hamas and Lebanon. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a press conference following his visit to Qatar.

“We are deeply concerned that the Israeli army is taking additional steps every day that are not part of the agreements with Hamas and Lebanon. These actions create facts on the ground that contradict existing agreements and UN Security Council resolutions on both the Palestinian and Lebanese issues,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov emphasized that Russia and Qatar share the view that the Israeli-Palestinian peace process must adhere to the principles set by the UN Security Council. “The question of establishing a Palestinian state is crucial,” he stressed. “If attempts are made to delay or replace this process with the resettlement of Palestinians in the region, it will only plant a time bomb, as we have seen over decades of ignoring the two-state solution.”

He also noted that Russia will continue consultations with Qatar on this issue and that Moscow values its dialogue with the Arab League, where experts regularly discuss necessary agreements. He added that Russia is looking forward to the upcoming League summit in Cairo, where discussions will include the future of Gaza, including proposals to transform it into a tourist zone.

“Arab nations want the right of Palestinians to live on their own land to be protected,” Lavrov stated. “For now, this is not happening. We will use our international influence, including in the United Nations, to ensure a constructive path forward.”
