Russia confirms participation of 49 countries in Russia-Africa summit

As of today, Russia has received confirmation  from 49 countries to participate in the Russia-Africa summit, Alexander Polyakov, Deputy Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Africa Department, told a press conference on Tuesday.


"As of today, we have received confirmation of participation from 49 African delegations, with about half of the African countries to be represented at the highest level - heads of state and government," he said.


According to Polyakov, such an approach demonstrates a firm commitment to developing relations with Russia, despite unprecedented pressure from the West.


He added that the summit program, the last preparations are underway.


"Now the last preparations for the summit are underway: its program is being finalized, the schedule of meetings of Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is being formed, bilateral and multilateral documents of our cooperation with Africans are being prepared for signing," he said.


The second Russia-Africa summit and economic forum is scheduled for July 27-28 in St. Petersburg. The first time the event was held in October 2019 in Sochi under the motto "For Peace, Security and Development."
