Russia Congratulates New CSTO Secretary-General on Taking Office

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin conveyed Moscow's congratulations to Taalatbek Masadykov on assuming the position of secretary-general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), according to the organization's official Telegram channel.

 

A meeting took place at CSTO headquarters between Pankin and Masadykov, who officially took office on January 1, 2026. The new secretary-general stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to advance Russia's presidency agenda, which focuses on strengthening allied ties and the CSTO's role in shaping “equal and indivisible security architecture in Eurasia.”

 

“On behalf of the Russian side, Alexander Pankin congratulated Taalatbek Masadykov on his appointment as CSTO Secretary-General, wishing him success and expressing confidence in fruitful cooperation and comprehensive support,” the statement said.

 

Masadykov replaced Imangali Tasmagambetov, whose term ended on December 31, 2025.
