Russia donates 100,000 doses of Sputnik Light vaccine to Benin

Russia has transferred 100,000 doses of the Sputnik Light coronavirus vaccine to Benin as humanitarian aid. This was reported on Tuesday on the official website of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Benin.


The ceremony, attended by Russian Ambassador to Benin Igor Yevdokimov and Benin Foreign Ministry Secretary-General Herve Djokpe, took place at the airport of Benin's economic capital, Cotonou.


"We express our gratitude to the government of the Russian Federation and the Russian Direct Investment Fund for their assistance in the fight against the coronavirus. This batch of the Sputnik Light vaccine will allow Benin to continue implementing the national vaccination program against COVID-19," said Djokpe.


Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in Benin, an African country of 12 million people, 26,309 people have been infected and 163 have died.
