Russia Offers to Mediate Between US and Iran for Constructive Dialogue

01 April

Moscow is prepared to help Washington and Tehran establish a constructive dialogue, emphasizing that "the opportunity has not yet passed." This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov in an interview with International Affairs magazine, a portion of which was published on the magazine’s website.

Ryabkov stressed that Russia opposes aggression and military solutions to conflicts, warning the US against striking Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, as the consequences "could be catastrophic for the entire region."

"I won’t even speculate on how Tehran might respond—our Iranian colleagues have made their position clear. But there is still time, and the opportunity has not been lost. We must double our efforts to reach a reasonable agreement," he said. "Russia is ready to offer its good offices to both Washington and Tehran, as well as to anyone else interested in finding a solution."

On March 30, US President Donald Trump announced that if no progress is made in negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program within two weeks, he intends to impose secondary sanctions on Iran. He further warned that if Tehran refuses to make a deal, it could face "unprecedented bombings."

In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, during his Eid al-Fitr sermon, stated that he does not believe the US would launch a military intervention. However, he warned that if Washington attempts to incite unrest within the Islamic Republic, it will face a severe response.
