Russia fully backs Africa's efforts to strengthen its economic sovereignty, according to Anatoly Bashkin, Director of the Africa Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry. Bashkin's message was delivered at the opening of the first international business forum “Russia - Africa Expo 2024” by Dmitry Suchkov, Deputy Director of the department.
“As a country with significant potential and expertise across various economic sectors and modern technologies, Russia is ready to share its achievements, knowledge, and experience with our African friends and to engage in mutually beneficial trade relations,” Bashkin emphasized. “We fully support Africa's pursuit of economic sovereignty.”
He highlighted Africa's status as a rapidly developing region with enormous growth potential, an attractive domestic market, and expanding export opportunities. “In recent years, Africa has steadily strengthened its international influence, asserting itself as a key player in global politics and one of the centers of the emerging multipolar world order,” added Bashkin.
“Given these factors, it is only natural that Russia places great importance on building a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership with Africa, a continent with which it shares deep connections—ranging from the tradition of joint anti-colonial struggles to a shared perspective on many of today's critical issues and, importantly, a commitment to common core values,” Bashkin concluded.
