Russia to Coordinate 80th Victory Day Celebrations with CIS Allies

19 February

Russia will closely coordinate with its allies in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to prepare for the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced during a parliamentary session in the State Duma.

“As we prepare for foreign policy engagements and other commemorative events dedicated to the Great Victory, we will work closely with our friends from the CIS. This year has been declared in the Commonwealth as the Year of the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the Year of Peace and Unity in the Fight Against Nazism. We are striving to ensure recognition of the crimes committed by the Nazi occupiers and their collaborators,” Lavrov stated.

He also emphasized the connection between the historical fight against Nazism and Russia’s current military objectives, underscoring the necessity of addressing the root causes of the Ukraine crisis.

Lavrov noted that President Vladimir Putin raised this issue during his February 12 phone conversation with US President Donald Trump. Additionally, he highlighted that the topic was a key focus of discussions between Russian and US foreign policy officials during recent high-level talks.
