17 November 2022

The Permanent Mission of Russia to the UN will hold an informal Arria-formula meeting of the Security Council on November 17 on the issue of preventing the economic collapse in Afghanistan and the prospects for reconstruction of this country. This was reported on Wednesday by the press service of the Russian mission.

"The unfreezing of Afghan assets remains critical to normalizing the situation in the country, preventing rampant inflation, rising poverty and hunger. These funds belong to the Afghan people and should not be used as leverage," the mission said.

Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya, other ambassadors and Humanitarian Coordinator in Afghanistan Ramiz Alakbarov will speak at the meeting.
