Moscow urges Yerevan and Baku to solve all problems through peaceful means. The Russian Foreign Ministry said this in a statement issued on Thursday following a telephone conversation between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko and EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar.
"The Russian side reiterated its call to the parties to solve all the problems arising peacefully in the course of negotiations. Russia is ready to continue providing all possible assistance to this process," the text reads.
The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that Rudenko and Klaar exchanged views and assessments on the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the progress in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the context of the work of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.
The situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border near the Gegharkunik and Syunik regions has been tense since May 12. On Thursday, Azerbaijan claimed that six Armenian servicemen were captured while trying to cross the border to commit sabotage. The Armenian side confirmed the fact of the captivity of military servicemen but stressed that they were engaged in engineering works in the border zone of the Gegharkunik region of Armenia at that time. Acting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called the incident a kidnapping of Armenian soldiers, and Yerevan appealed to the European Court of Human Rights.
